Safety Information

  • For those visiting the country from abroad, driving habits in Egypt can take some getting used to. Don’t expect any consideration from other road users and don’t try to apply the same traffic rules as you do at home. What’s more advisable is to drive cautiously and always be ready to brake and get out of the way
Because you often have to provide identification, it’s important to always have your passport with you. When visiting the Ras Mohamed national park, a full Egyptian visa is required. This can be obtained for a fee at the airport, upon arrival. On most package trips, it will be included in the price.

  • Many tours outside of Sharm need to be registered with the local authorities and, given the numerous police checks, should not be undertaken “under your own steam”. This is particularly true for trips out into the desert. Also here, the golden rule here is: only with a support car, never alone, because getting things wrong in the desert or getting stuck as a result of a breakdown can lead to serious consequences. One thing to bear in mind is that, given the high mountains, there are many areas where there is no reception, meaning that making calls with your mobile phone simply isn’t possible.

  • One danger not to be underestimated is mines, a remnant of the Egyptian-Israeli Six-Day War of 1967. Regions in which mines are known to exist are sealed off. Nevertheless, in the desert, visitors should only move around with a driver who knows the terrain, and avoid unknown places.

  • With our team, it’s safe to travel around the Sinai. All tours are checked by us, with your safety in mind. A support car carrying drinks, snacks, spare parts, tools and a first-aid kit is always provided.

Most of our native employees (drivers, cooks and guides) are Bedouins, who know the desert “like the back of their hand”. They value having guests from abroad and are always happy to share their knowledge about their homeland with visitors.
